Spreading Compassion Through Service: HFSE Outreach Programme at the Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled
At HFSE International School, education extends beyond academic achievement. The school also nurtures empathy, compassion, and responsibility towards the wider community. Therefore, the recent HFSE Outreach Programme at the Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled became a meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.
Organised by our Partners of Excellence (P4E), the outreach programme brought together students, teachers, and staff. As a result, participants had the opportunity to connect with others, serve the community, and experience the impact of kindness and human connection.
Learning About the Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled
The Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD) is an adult disability home that provides full-time care and support for individuals with low to moderate and severe intellectual and physical disabilities.
The facility supports up to 130 residents. In addition, a team of healthcare professionals, therapists, nurses, and social workers provides specialised care and support. Many residents live with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental delays, and other physical or intellectual disabilities.
Home plays an important role in the community. It provides quality care, therapy, and opportunities that enhance residents’ quality of life. Furthermore, it supports individuals who may have limited caregiving options.
For the HFSE community, the visit provided more than an opportunity to learn about the Home’s mission. It also allowed participants to connect with residents through meaningful interactions and shared experiences.
Bringing Joy Through Heartfelt Performances
One of the highlights of the outreach programme was a series of performances by HFSE students. Through music, movement, and presentation, students created moments of warmth and connection for residents and staff.
These performances were more than entertainment. Instead, they created opportunities for engagement and understanding. As a result, students and residents shared memorable experiences together. The visit demonstrated how simple acts of kindness can make a difference. Moreover, it highlighted the value of building connections across different backgrounds and life experiences.
