Think Contemporary with SAM: Inspiring Curiosity Through Art at HFSE
Exploring New Perspectives in Arts Education
Arts education plays an important role at HFSE International School. Recently, the school welcomed Andrea and Gabbie from the Singapore Art Museum for an engaging session with Primary 4 students. This visit introduced learners to thought-provoking contemporary artworks and encouraged them to ask meaningful questions from the start.
Through guided discussion and open questioning, students explored how art can be understood in many different ways. As a result, the session supported curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking among learners.
Beginning the Think Contemporary with SAM Journey
This session marked the start of HFSE students’ participation in the Think Contemporary with SAM programme. As part of the school’s ongoing commitment to arts education, the programme connects young learners with contemporary art through hands-on and reflective experiences beyond the classroom.
As the journey continues, students will visit the museum and respond creatively to artwork. They will also create original pieces inspired by their learning. In addition, these activities allow students to share ideas and celebrate creativity in meaningful ways.
Encouraging Critical Thinking Through Art
Arts education encourages students to think deeply, ask questions, and consider different viewpoints. During the session, Primary 4 learners were supported in expressing opinions, listening to others, and reflecting on how art can communicate ideas.
As a result, students gained confidence in sharing their thoughts and strengthened critical thinking skills. They also learned that artwork can be interpreted in more than one way. Therefore, this approach helps develop open-minded and reflective learners.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
